Art projects
Posted on June 26th, 2009 1 commentArt and reading go hand in hand. There are a number of exciting art projects that will be taking place in Wareham related to the community reads program and there is always room for more! The first are our prayer flags which hopefully will be flying throughout town. We also will be having a pottery demonstration, a weekly crafts workshop at the library and a number of art students are working on a collage mural with members of the Onset Creative Arts Association. Another project will be painted prayer rugs. Please suggest more ideas for projects and post them. Be sure to post your photos as well. And come to the library to add to the mural, make a prayer rug or another crafts project throughout the summer.

Book Discussions
Posted on June 26th, 2009 1 commentReading a good book is always a pleasure, but many of us want to discuss what we have read with friends, family, or members of a book discussion group after we are done reading. Creating your own group is easy, and you can stop by the library for a handout you can use as a guideline. There are plenty of copies of Three Cups of Tea at the library to be checked out. Anyone who would like to ask questions of a veteran book discussion leader can email friendswfl@gmail.com. If you are not ready to start your own group, the library will be scheduling brown bag lunch discussions as well as evening discussion sessions over the summer. Check the calendar to see when they will occur.
Let’s Read Together Wareham!!
Post your comments about the book here and we can have an ongoing book discussion online.

Summer reading
Posted on June 26th, 2009 No commentsStudents in the summer reading program for the Wareham Schools are all reading the book, “Three Cups of Tea” this summer. Middle school and high school students are reading the young adult version and adult versions of the book. Books were supplied to students through a partnership with the schools and the Friends of the Library. We invite students to post blogs as they read the books this summer and library staff will respond. Enjoy your reading!

Prayer Flags
Posted on June 26th, 2009 No commentsPrayer flags will soon be flying all around Wareham and Onset. Stop by the Children’s Room in the library to make your flag. Send good wishes to someone on the wind. Craft times are being scheduled so don’t forget to check the calendar on this site as it is updated. When you finish your flag, send us a post on this blog telling us what your message is and where your flag is hanging. You can even send us a photo and we will put it online. Flags are now hanging in the library and in the library courtyard. Stop by and take a look!

Join us in Reading Three Cups of Tea!
Posted on April 21st, 2009 No commentsThree Cups of Tea is bringing our community together– one book at a time. Thus far, we have students throughout our school system, parents and children, arts and civic organizations, businesses and ordinary citizens all finding common ground in their interest in a book. We are beginning to work together on reading, art and other projects that the community can join in over the next six months. Much of this is happening at your local library. Join in!
